Central Council Meeting of N.F.Railway Mazdoor Union ( NFRMU) held at Rangapara North from August 28-30, 2018. The Meeting started by unfurling of union flag by Shri Ramani Barman, former Education Minister of Assam and President of the union. Then a colourful rally comprising of about 400 Central Council Members shouting various slogan on the demands of the Railwaymen marched through the Railway colony.
According to the agenda, Zonal Women Committee Meeting was held onn 29th August at Com. Golap Borbora Manch with Smt. Kalpana Rajkumar in the Chair. The meeting discussed various problems of the women workers in the workspot and urged upon the General Secretary to bring the issues before the administration to redress the same. The meeting also discussed the role of the women in the union and how to organize the women workers in the union.
The meeting was address by Smt. Asmi Ahmed from MLG, Smt. Madhumita Dey Paul from LMG, Ms. Pooja Das from NJP, Smt. Pampa sen from APDJ, Smt. Itu Devi from RGJ, Smt. Semima Begum from NBQ, Smt. Jina Lama from MBZ, Smt. Ajanta Bhuyan from LMG, Smt Manomati Baishya from MLG, Smt Gitanjali from LFG. Com. Rakhal Dasgupta, General Secretary of the Union.
At about 13.00 hrs a meeting of Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Assam State was organized where a large number of workers comprising of Hawkers, Domestic workers, Porters attended. Com. Harbhajan Singh Siddhu, General Secretary, HMS and Com. Ashis Biswas, General Secretary, Assam State addressed the gathering.
At about 16.30 hrs. an open session was held with Professor Ramani Barman, President of the union in the chair was addressed by Com. Ashis Biswas and Com. Pijush Chakraborty both Joint General Secretaries, Com. Harbhajan Singh Siddhu, General Secretary, Hind Mazdoor Sabha and Com. Rakhal Dasgupta, General Secretary of the union.
Com. Harbhajan Singh Siddhu praised N.F.Railway Madoor Union for its revolutionary character along with the role in women and youth movement. He mentioned about the historic Railway Strike in 1960, 1968 and 1974 and the role of NFRMU.
Com. Harbhajan Singh Siddhu in his speech mentioned that BJP led NDA Govt. is totally anti people and anti labour. This Govt is led by World Bank and America. He further mentioned that BJP led NDA Govt trying to amend the Factories Act, 1948, Industrial Disputes Act 1947, minimum wage act etc at the cost of common workers interest. He stated that on the one hand Govt. is proposing amendments in existing labour laws which has brought certain new bills, on the other hand it has decided and started recodifying the existing 44 Central Labour laws. He expressed his anguish to mention that In the entire exercise the Govt. has acted as facilitator for employers to provide them optimum subsidies, relaxation under different acts, providing cheap land, subsidized power and water and all other to run their factories smoothly.
Shri Siddhu further said that the workers are not aware of most of these amendments and its impact in their future life. These amendments will make the workers as Bonded Labour. This autocratic and anti labour Govt. is moving step by step to close down the Trade Unions, collective burgaining, workers` right, freedom of association
Shri Siddhu mentioned that the contribution of Public Sector Undertakings in the matter of economic stability and development, providing employment opportunities are worth mentioning but there is constant attack on their stability by disinvestment of their share and allowing Foreign Direct Investment. PPP which are not a panacea. It is not “Public Private Participation” iInfact it is “Privatization of Public Property” in the name of PPP. Public properties are being handed over to the Private Players to allow the private sectors to mint money.
Com. Rakhal Das Gupta, General Secretary, N. F. Railway Mazdoor Union and President, AIRF spoke in details about the problems of Railwaymen working in N. F. Railway. Shri Dasgupta strongly demanded to scrap New Pension Scheme and to revise fitment formula, raising of minimum wage to Rs.26000, to restore percentage of all allowances to 6th CPC level and to pay all allowances and advances etc.
AIRF and NFRMU fighting tooth and nail for the upliftment of social and financial condition of the Indian Railwaymen. He further stated that railway staff are working day and night in acute climatic condition to keep the train running uninterrupted & to protect the track, they are working under the open sky, some time in 45 to 50 degree temperature and some time under minus degree temperature, in dense forest, on the hill and over the bridge on the rivers. But they are the most deprived fellow and on the other hand corrupted personals are enjoying the cream. He further mentioned that the price of all essential commodities specially the food articles have been on the increase without any proportion. There is no attempt from the Govt. to arrest the price rise. Abnormal increase in the price of food articles has been bitting the common people hard.
Com. Dasgupta gave a clarion call to all the Railway workers to observe Golden Jubilee of 19th September, Martyres day in befitting manner .
Three resolutions on the Golden Jubilee of Martyres day on 19th September, Charter of demands and redressal of grievances were adopted unanimously.
The meeting was winded up with vote of thanks by Com. Samrat Mitra, President, Sri Hemanta Rai, Secretary and Sri Kamalesh Pandey, Treasurer respectively of Rangapara North Branch.
